Students completing the Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies minor program will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue their professional or further academic career goals in a range of fields. The minor can draw on coursework from departments all over campus, from history and political Science, to anthropology, languages, business, education, and more. Courses taken abroad can even fulfill requirements toward the LACLS minor!
Program Requirements
- 2.0 grade point average in the minor is required for completion of the degree. The minor GPA is calculated based on all courses applicable to the minor that the student has attempted at UA.
- LAS 401 Seminar in Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies.
- An additional minimum of 15 credit hours from two or more disciplines, with at least three hours taken on campus.
- A total of 6 hours of language training taken outside of the minor in one or more of the following: Spanish; Portuguese; French; Dutch; any indigenous or creole language having a historical or current association with Latin America or the Caribbean. Grades in the language courses will not be computed into the minor GPA.
