Previous LACLS Lectures
This past 2015 fall semester, Dr. Ann Twinam gave an insightful talk on her new book Purchasing Whiteness: Pardos, Mulattos & the Quest for Social Mobility in the Spanish Indies highlighted the divergent historical paths taken by Anglo and Latin Americas, the consequences of which reverberate today. She encouraged us to consider processes of social inclusion and exclusion not only within Spanish America, but also within the United States.
Thank you to all who attended the Spring 2016 LACLS’s, the Department of History’s, the Summersell Center for the Study of the South’s, and American Studies’s presentation of Dr. Carrie Gibson, author of “Empire’s Crossroads.” We had a terrific time learning about the Deep South’s forgotten Hispanic heritage.
